3DD Day 3 (re-upload)

Task 1: create a structure that can hold 3 balls
Task 2: create something out of paper that will protect your structure when something is dropped on it
Ideas for the stand

After creating all of the designs on how I could create a stand, I decided to not use any of them. I wanted to do this as not any of the sketches that I had done related well to what we would use to create the model (spaghetti).

I felt that my model was a failure, even though it could stand on its own and hold all three balls. This is because the design was very random, not all of the triangles that formed the top of the model were all the same size and the legs went out at different angles causing it to tilt and have to be reinforced with stockier legs.

When creating a paper structure that could protect my spaghetti structure, I chose to make a paper hat. I thought that the strong sides to the hat might be able to stand the force of whatever was to be dropped on my structure.

The strange shape of my structure meant that making protection for it proved difficult. From observing other students work I found that cylinders proved the best against the weight that was being dropped on them.
2) fixing in place with glue gun
1) Planning structure
3) Making legs that look weak stronger by doubling the
amount of spaghetti on them

4) The protection for my structure

  1. Personally I thought your structure looked great from the photo shoot, your structure would look amazing as a real life building; like an olympic stadium. It was probably because of it's stability and the ball placement that gave off that vibe to me.

You seemed to know how to improve reinforcements on your 2nd task, after watching the other peers work withstand the force from above, if you had another chance would you adapt that successful reinforcement on yours? Although your design did not survive I still believe it would still look great as an architectural design in real life, it had quite a futuristic look to it.
