Metamorphosis. Day 4

I started on the storyboard and found it quite difficult to express what I wanted to do in each scene without overcomplicating the storyboard. Also when people look at this they assume things about what is going to happen or what certain symbols mean and they take it a bit too literally but half of them I am only using so that I can get my own head around how to express this. well we'll see what happens at the end.

Metamorphosis. Day 3

On Tuesday we were told to do research into our project, storyline etc.
I had planed a basic storyline (top right) that I would use for my project. I plan to so an animation similar to what I did last week but with snip-bits of live action which is in response to Jan Svankmajer. We had to get our ideas for our story from the short story 'Metamorphosis' by Frank Kafka; for mine I focused on Gregor and Gtete's relationship, how at the beginning they rely on each other to keep going and then towards the end grete is able to go off by herself and Gregor is left alone to defend for himself. I plan to use as much live action and different platforms as Svankmajer used.

The page on the top left shows some of the character design that I did at the beginning of the project; I was wondering if I could just stick animal heads over people that I had cut out of the newspaper however I decided against it and chose to photograph my models doing the poses that I wanted rather than having a 'lucky dip' of poses as I did last week.

On Friday our task was to collate all of the research and work that we had done over the past two days onto one A1 sheet of paper and then present this work to a small group for more ideas on our storyline etc.
After this talk I decided to focus more on showing Gregor and Grete's relationship clearer to the audience.

Metamorphosis. Day 2

I really enjoyed this weeks life drawing, mainly because we did something different. I find life drawing a lot better when we are given some kind of direction or are taught how to better our skills. This lesson was not quite like that however. What I found was best about the day and I enjoyed most was how we were used the projector to project images of bugs onto the model. I thought that this was a new and interesting way of drawing the mode.

Metamorphosis. Day 1

As well as visiting the Jan Svankmajer exhibition we were also to explore Brighton, collect 20 objects and 30 images. I was only able to find 10 objects like many of my peers; however, I did collect 30 images and some of them are shown below.

On Monday we visited the Jan Svankmajer exhibition in Brighton. Svankmajer's work is very of a certain style and much of the exhibition consisted of the models that he and his wife had created for his short animations. I enjoyed watching his short animations on the various screens around the exhibition; and I was intrigued by how such a random set of real life clips and animation worked so well together. This is what I shall try to achieve in my work this week.

As well as the short films the exhibition also displayed a large collection of the models that he used in his films. They are all made very carefully so that you can barely see the joints between two pieces.
